Ed Baker

Ed was with the Ford Motor Company for twenty years. This included five years as Corporate Director, Quality Strategy and Operations Support, where his responsibilities included the management of Dr. Deming’s consulting to the company. He assisted Dr. Deming in many public and private seminars.

After his time at Ford, Ed consulted to a variety of organizations in business, education and government. He has authored many papers in quality, productivity and system improvement, including: “Springing Ourselves from the  Measurement Trap,” published in Peter Senge et al., The Fifth Discipline Field Book, and “Managing Human Performance,” a section in Juran’s Quality Control Handbook (4thedition). His most recent book is The Symphony of Profound Knowledge: W. Edwards Deming’s Score for Leading, Performing, and Living in Concert.

Ed received his BA degree from the City College of New York, his MBA from the Baruch School of Business Administration of the City University of New York, and his Ph.D. in Industrial and Organization Psychology from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Ed is a Fellow of the American Society for Quality, which has honored him with the Deming Medal and the Ishikawa Medal.
