The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) has announced the 2019 Deming Prize winners.
Five companies were awarded the Deming Prize this year:
- ELGi Equipments Limited (India)

Deming journey led to zero warranty claims: Siemens Gamesa - JSW Steel Limited, Salem Works (India)

Indian companies receiving 4 of the 5 awards is not as surprising as some may think: since 2000, organizations based in India have received the most Deming Prizes. Japan is second, and Thailand is third.

2019 Deming Grand Prize
An organization may apply for the Deming Grand Prize three years or more after it has received the Deming Prize.

- Dr. Yasushi Nagata, Professor, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University
2019 Deming Distinguished Service Award For Dissemination and Promotion Overseas:
- Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company Limited & Sundaram-Clayton Limited
Mr. Venu Srinivasan presentation at the 2019 Deming Prize Award CeremonyIn his presentation he mentioned several keys he learned during his decades-long journey improving the management of TVS, including that the improvement process is continual (it isn’t a destination; it is a never ending journey) and that each company has to adapt the principles to fit their organization. Further, he mentioned that he learned the spirit of the Deming Prize effort includes these principles:– share and propagate the learnings
– create prosperity for the industry and society
